I had a conversation with a customer today, which asked me if it is possible to change the default dialog settings in open file dialog so that the "Favorites" folder appears in the side bar. This can be done by changing the registry setting in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\comdlg32

You can configure your settings here (online tool which generates the registry entries).
